"Weaver's Rockin' Reading Program" is the theme for our Reading Incentive program this year. We are encouraging every child to read for knowledge, fun and relaxation. The program is based on each student reading and recording at least 400 minutes per month to be considered a "Reading Rock-star". The program is from September 2011 through April 2012. Any student who is a "Reading Rock-star" for the month will have his/her name put into a drawing. The Reading Incentive Team will hold the drawings at flag ceremony once a month. Each classroom will have one "Reading Rock-star" name drawn. Each winner will receive a rockin' prize and have the opportunity to select a new book from our grade appropriate buckets of books.

Class Incentives 

Monthly - any class who has 100% participation (EVERY student turns in a completed calendar to teacher on time)

•  Kindergarten - 2nd Grade: Reading Time (Reading Incentive Team will read an interesting book to the classrooms during time specified best by teacher and committee).
•  3rd-5th: Extra 15 minutes of recess. Dates/times TBD and announced at flag ceremony.

Grand Prize 

All students reaching the "Reading Rock-star status every month receives a grand prize at the end of the year. Grand prize TBD, depending on donors.

Monthly Calendars

Calendars can be downloaded from the Weaver PTA website (www.weaverpta.org, then go to PTA programs/Reading Incentive). Students must bring their calendars from HOME, completed with the totaled minutes, on the specified due dates and give to his/her teacher to receive credit.

***Calendars left in the office, media center or elsewhere will not qualify***

*Exceptions will be made for those students who are sick/absent on the date the calendars are due. If this is the instance, please turn in to teacher when student returns.

Media Center Display Board Each class has its own electric guitar on the front wall of the media center. All classes reaching 100% participation (everyone in the class turns in their calendar with their totaled minutes and on time) will have a musical note with 100% and the month written on it and posted to their guitar. The name of the monthly "Reading Rock-star will also be put on the guitar. The notes and names will stay up all year to show how many times the classroom achieved 100%.

Kindergarten Classrooms Although Kindergarten classrooms do not participate in the flag ceremony until January, they are still a part of the program. The Reading Incentive Team will come to each Kindergarten class and present the monthly drawing and winners until January.
